18-year-old Sam, who never seems to catch a break, meets a black cat who takes her to a magical land from where all the good and bad luck originates. After getting fired from Pixar due to #metoo-related accusations, John Lasseter came to Skydance and this was the first movie he supervised as a producer. It comes dangerously close to being a Pixar knock-off, constantly touching on themes and ideas that are typical of the rival studio’s great movies. Nothing here is satisfying enough, in spite of a few amusing and attractive moments.
