In an Italian village, a woodcarver (Tom Hanks) builds a marionette that resembles his dead son; a wish upon a star brings the boy to life. Another pointless Disney remake of one of their classics. It’s hard to come even close to the 1940 masterpiece and this one doesn’t have enough original ideas in terms of story, visual design (and new songs for that matter) to make anyone care. Still, the filmmakers stage the action quite well at times, especially at Stromboli’s theater, and kids will find the film watchable.

2022-U.S. Part Animated. VOD. 105 min. Color. Directed by Robert Zemeckis. Screenplay: Robert Zemeckis, Chris Weitz. Cast: Tom Hanks (Gepetto), Cynthia Erivo (The Blue Fairy), Guiseppe Battiston (Stromboli), Kyanne Lamaya, Luke Evans. Voices of Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Pinocchio), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Jiminy Cricket), Lorraine Bracco (Sofia), Keegan Michael-Key.

Trivia: Sam Mendes and Paul King were considered for directing duties. Co-produced by Zemeckis and Weitz; co-executive produced by Paul Weitz. The story was also filmed the same year by Guillermo del Toro as Pinocchio
