Enola Holmes

YOUNGSTER. REBEL. SLEUTH.

Millie Bobby Brown. Photo: Netflix

When she learns on her sixteenth birthday that her mother (Helena Bonham Carter) has disappeared, Enola Holmes (Millie Bobby Brown) is thrown into an adventure where she matches wits with her brothers, Sherlock and Mycroft (Henry Cavill, Sam Claflin). It may be bloated, especially for a story that isn’t clever enough to warrant a two-hour running time, but this young-adult adventure benefits from Brown’s considerable charisma as another brilliant member of the Holmes clan, teaching her famous brothers a lesson. The film comes with an expected feminist message and has enough thrills and fun to satisfy a young audience.

2020-U.S.-U.K. VOD. 123 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Harry Bradbeer. Novel: Nancy Springer (”The Enola Holmes Mysteries: The Case of the Missing Marquess”). Cast: Millie Bobby Brown (Enola Holmes), Louis Partridge (Tewkesbury), Henry Cavill (Sherlock Holmes), Sam Claflin (Mycroft Holmes), Helena Bonham Carter, Burn Gorman… Fiona Shaw.

Trivia: Co-produced by Brown. Originally scheduled for a theatrical release, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed plans. Followed by Enola Holmes 2 (2022).
