TWO LIVES. TWO CITIES. ONE LAST CHANCE.

Two best friends (Reese Witherspoon, Ashton Kutcher) swap houses for a week; the reasons differ, but the consequences are huge. Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna’s directing debut has a slick and appealing surface, inventing new relationships and contrivances to make sure the romantic leads are too occupied to realize the truth about each other, until the right moment arrives. Witherspoon and Kutcher are a dependable part of the film’s glamorous sheen, but they (and we) need better jokes and perhaps a surprise or two.
