Ouija: Origin of Evil

WHEN YOU TALK TO THE OTHER SIDE, YOU NEVER KNOW WHO WILL BE LISTENING.

Los Angeles, 1967; a medium (Elizabeth Reaser) brings an Ouija board into her home, little dreaming that she and her daughters (Annalise Basso, Lulu Wilson) really will come into contact with spirits from the other side. A prequel that improves on the 2014 original. As it constructs an engaging background story to the first movie, we’re treated to characters that we actually give a damn about, and shocks that don’t just rely on clichés but also surprise us now and then. The film connects to the original Ouija in clever ways, thereby elevating it (undeservedly so, perhaps). Eerie atmosphere and a a good cast.

2016-U.S. 99 min. Color. Directed and edited by Mike Flanagan. Screenplay: Mike Flanagan, Jeff Howard. Cast: Elizabeth Reaser (Alice Zander), Annalise Basso (Paulina ”Lina” Zander), Lulu Wilson (Doris Zander), Henry Thomas, Parker Mack, Kate Siegel… Doug Jones, Lin Shaye.

Trivia: Co-produced by Michael Bay.
