Kidnappers let an affluent New York City family know that they have their son… but things turn complicated when it turns out they grabbed the wrong boy. Writer Ed Solomon was inspired by the Kurosawa film High and Low (1963) for this portrait of cultures and families that clash in the Big Apple, including immigrants with ties to Guyana and the daughter (Claire Danes) of a celebrity chef (Dennis Quaid) who lives in denial of her past actions. A tangled intrigue that teaches us certain lessons that echo those in Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic (2000). Never as thrilling as you’d like, but a good cast and an emotional score.
