Second Act

Rolf Lassgård and Lena Olin. Photo: Nordisk Film

When Harald Skoog (Rolf Lassgård), an overbearing star of the stage, suffers a stroke, he agrees to hire Eva (Lena Olin) as his physiotherapist; she has problems of her own, issues she’s ignoring. Mårten Klingberg has turned into a reliable director of smooth drama-comedies where people, whose lives are upended, must learn how to heal. Here he’s reunited with Lassgård after My Father Marianne (2020) for another tale that shows how there are many ways to get a second chance in life. The filmmakers’ light touch and a fine cast counter any negative effect that the formula might hold.

2023-Sweden. 114 min. Color. Widescreen. Directed by Mårten Klingberg. Cast: Lena Olin (Eva Söderberg), Rolf Lassgård (Harald Skoog), Anneli Martini (Siv), Lars Väringer, Görel Crona, Charlie Gustafsson.

Trivia: Original title: Andra akten.
