Just Mercy

EVERY GENERATION HAS ITS HERO. MEET OURS.

In 1989, Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan), fresh out of Harvard Law School, goes to Alabama to take on a death-row inmate (Jamie Foxx) as a client, facing great resistance. Based on actual events, this is one of those stories that seem almost too good to be true, depicting a stubborn fight to save an innocent man from the electric chair. It doesn’t help that we’ve seen this formula at work so many times before, but it’s still done with conviction, even moving at times, featuring solid performances by the two leads. Tim Blake Nelson is also enjoyable as a shifty criminal whose testimony put McMilian on death row.
